Frequently Asked Questions

An exclusive venue set in the beautiful Grade II listed barns just a stones throw from the A1(M), A19 and the East coast Mainline. We’ve answered some of the questions we get answered most frequently below but please do contact us if you have anything you would like to ask.

General

Are the barns heated?
Yes, they are – both the ceremony and reception barn are heated to make them comfortable throughout the year, and the reception barn also has aircon to ensure it stays the right temperature as you dance the night away!
Are dogs permitted on site?

You’re welcome to have your dog attend the ceremony and welcome drinks, however we ask that they leave before your wedding breakfast. Dogs are not allowed in the Bed & Breakfast.

Do we need wedding insurance?

Yes we recommend couples takes out wedding insurance as soon as they pay their deposit. Couples must have public liability insurance for their wedding – we will ask for a copy of this a month before your wedding.

Can I bring my family / photographer / florist to see the barns?
Yes absolutely, you can book a tour using our online diary here.
Is it exclusive use?

Yes it will only be you and your guests using the barns and accommodation during your wedding.

What do we do if we have any questions?

Drop us an email – we are happy to answer any questions you have at any time during your wedding planning.

Will we have a meeting to discuss our wedding?

Yes, we will invite you along to a tasting for your bar choices, at this meeting we will discuss your whole wedding from suppliers to timings.

Will there be someone on hand to help on the day?

Absolutely – your venue co-ordinator will be on hand to help you set up the day before your wedding and run through a rehearsal if you would like. The venue co-ordinator will be onsite throughout your wedding day to liaise with the registrars, meet your suppliers and help them setup to ensure your day runs smoothly.

Access

Is Lodge Farm wheelchair friendly?

Absolutely, the barns have ramps inside so guests can access all areas step free and there’s a disabled toilet. We have ramps for outside the barns – just let us know and we will happily pop these out for you.

What time do we have access?

You’ll have access from 1pm the day before your wedding to set everything up and until 11am the day after to collect your belongings. On the wedding day itself all guests who are not staying at Lodge Farm must be off site by 00:15. Guest that are staying in the onsite accommodation need to check out by 10am the following day.

Transport

How much parking is there?

We have parking for 60 cars on site.

Can we leave cars overnight?

Drivers are welcome to leave their cars overnight at their own risk – we ask they are collected by 10am the following morning. Due to planning restrictions, you cannot leave motor homes in the car park overnight.

Taxis

We’ve several local taxi companies we recommend to couples who book their wedding at Lodge Farm – although these are great, prebooking is essential! (There is no Uber around here!)

Buses

You are welcome to have a bus drop off and collect your guests – we ask that you let us know in advance so we can speak to them to arrange logistics. We recommend checking out York Pullman, who even have the option of a vintage bus to transport your guests to Lodge Farm!

Directions

We can give you directions to pass on to your guests – the easiest way to find us is our Google Pin – we are just 7 minutes’ drive from the A1(M).

Ceremony

Can we get married on site?

Yes, our ceremony barn is licensed by North Yorkshire County Council to hold weddings in.

How do we book the registrar?

Once you decide to go ahead, we will talk you through booking North Yorkshire County Council to come and conduct your wedding.

Are we allowed confetti?

Definitely! We love a confetti shot! We just ask its biodegradable and that you don’t use confetti cannons.

How many can the ceremony barn seat?

The ceremony barn can seat 130 people.

Can we have a church wedding then the reception at Lodge Farm?

Yes we did this ourselves! St Mary’s & All Saints Cundall is next door to the farm and accessed through our short woodland walk. We are happy to put you in touch with the vicar if this is something you would like to explore.

Can we play music during the ceremony?

Yes you can connect to our sound system via Bluebooth from your phone or audio device – we will have a run through of this the day before to make sure you are comfortable with everything!

What time should we get married?

We would recommend a 2pm ceremony – this gives your guests time to get here if they are travelling and to eat beforehand! You also have time to get ready in the morning, however if you would like a little earlier or later then that’s fine with us too.

Are we allowed candles?

We ask that all candles are electric as the barns are very old! This also applies to the reception barn.

Reception

Can we have garden games in the courtyard?

Yes of course – we would recommend giant Jenga and Corn Hole. Try Yorkshire Games Hire for these.

How big are the tables?

The long tables are 6’ long and 3’ wide, the rounds are 5’6” diameter. The round tables will need linen, please speak to your caterer and they will be able to help with this.

Is there a PA system for speeches?

Yes we have a PA system for your speeches and you can connect to the sound system via bluebooth to play background music during the meal.

What happens if it rains?

If it rains we will move the chairs out of the ceremony barn for you to have your welcome drinks and canapes in there. Its also a lovely place to have photos if the weather is not playing ball!

Are fireworks allowed?

Unfortunately fireworks are not permitted due to the livestock living on site.

Can we have a live band?

Yes you are welcome to have a live band or a DJ. They will need to use our sound system so we ask that you put us in touch with them to discuss this.

Is there a noise limit?

Bands and DJs must use our sound system which has a built-in noise limiter to ensure the level stays within our licensing conditions.

Can we have street food in the evening?

Absolutely, we can point you in the direction of some amazing street food caterers!

Can we have open fires in the courtyard?

No due to the overhead wires we can not have fire pits in the courtyard.

What time does everything close?

We will call last orders at 11:30pm and the music will end at midnight.

Is there a quieter area for grandparents or younger children?

Yes our chill out area is situated just to the side of the barn – perfect for those wanting a conversation but still keeping an eye on the dancefloor!

How can people pay at the bar?

The bar accepts card or cash payments.

Do we need to clear up at the end?

No don’t worry about that! We will do the clearing and cleaning, we will pop all your decorations and cards to one side ready for you to collect in the morning.

Facilities

How many toilets are there?

We have a disabled toilet with baby change, three ladies’ loos and three urinals and a toilet in the gents.

Do you have highchairs and baby changing facilities?

Yes we have high chairs for your youngest guests – just mark them on your table plan and we will set them out for you. Baby changing is in the disabled toilet.

Accommodation

Do you have accommodation on site?

Yes, our onsite Bed & Breakfast sleeps 8 people and is automatically booked the night before and the night of your wedding.

What local accommodation is there?

There’s a wide range of accommodation within 10 minutes’ drive of Lodge Farm – from local country pubs to boutique hotels and a Premier Inn. When you book Lodge Farm our welcome pack contains details of these you can pass on to your guests.

Booking Process

How do we book?

To secure your date we will draw up a contract for you to sign and take a 25% deposit.

What is the payment schedule?

25% to secure the date, 50% six months before your wedding and the final 25% three months before.

Is VAT included in the price?

Yes, it is.

What’s your cancellation policy?

This will be in your contract – take a read of this carefully before you sign and let us know if you’ve any questions.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes, we do. We will also ask all your suppliers to provide their certificates of public liability insurance and their electrical and gas safety certificates.
